During all even years Atlantic Challenge International hosts competitions in a member country. Denmark has been represented since 1988, where a boat was browed. In 2004 there was a total of 12 nations in the competition. Some of the nations participating were USA Canada, England and Ireland. For the competition in Italy 2006, there were 18 participating teams. AC int is a friendly organised competition in good seamanship, yet another goal is to bring young people together and to build a cross-cultural understanding. Competition types include sailing, rowing, knots and navigation etc. Denmark has won the competition in 1996, yet in 2006 Denmark received a 9th place. In 2008 the competition will be held in Finland where the targeted is set for a top 5 position. Odd year activitiesThe competitions are held in even years, so during odd years AC Roskilde carry out different activities. During the odd years, there is training in the boat to maintain operation skills. We are trying to build cooperation with the other Nordic countries, Norway and Finland, to host training camps – and if possible financially, we will be able to send the boat to France where a French based competition is also held. During the winter season we will focus our training on knots, navigation and physical endurance training in indoor rowing machines. We also focus on maintaining boat, as it is possible to see the condition of the boat. |
